Johnson assumes command of 5th FTS

VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Lt. Col. Matthew Johnson assumed command of the 5th Flying Training Squadron during a ceremony held July 31 in the Armed Forces Reserve Center.

The presiding official at the ceremony was Col. Allen Duckworth, commander of the 340th Flying Training Group at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas.

Johnson has served as a T-38 Talon instructor pilot with the 5th FTS since December 2008. He is a command pilot with more than 3,000 hours in the F-15C Eagle and the T-38.

The 5th FTS, an Air Force Reserve unit with 75 squadron members, is part of the Air Education and Training Command/Air Force Reserve Command Integrated Associate Instructor Pilot Program.

The unit flies more than 8,800 sorties annually at Vance training student pilots in the T-1A Jayhawk, the T-6A Texan II and the T-38.
