Besides family housing, there are 129 buildings on Vance as of July 2008.

How many jobs does Vance create?

Vance AFB created roughly 900 indirect jobs and about $29.3 million in payroll in the local community in fiscal year 2007.

How many people are assigned to Vance AFB?

Vance has nearly 1,200 active duty and Reserve military, as well as approximately 1,300 family members here. The base also employs more than 1,300 Federal civilian employees, non-appropriated fund civilian employees, contractors and private business employees. There are an estimated 2,000 retired military members in the local area.

How many single family housing units are on Vance AFB?

As of July 2010, Vance AFB has: 136 officer family units; 106 enlisted family units; 309 unaccompanied units; and 54 visitor units and 10 temporary lodging units.

The Housing Privatization Initiative was approved by the Department of Defense in 1996 as a more timely and cost-effective way to provide military families with quality housing than the traditional military construction funding process. AETC conveyed the command's military family housing to private developers by dividing the remaining installations into two major groups. Group II includes Columbus AFB in Mississippi; Goodfellow, Laughlin and Randolph AFBs in Texas; Maxwell AFB, Ala., and Vance AFB, Okla. A total of 2,338 housing units were be privatized at these six bases.

In fiscal year 2007, Vance AFB executed a total base budget of more than $110 million.

Unless the person was a high-ranking person on base (one of the unit commanders, etc.), it is highly unlikely there is any archival material at the base. If the person was high ranking, there is a slight possibility the history office may have some information. You may submit a request for information from the 71st Flying Training Wing Historian by e-mail.

If the person is still active duty military, you may be able to contact them in this way.

If they are retired, you may be able to use this site to assist with locating them.

What is Vance's mission?

Vance is the U.S. Air Force's only Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training (JSUPT) wing, training over 400 Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and allied student pilots each year. The wing flies over 55,000 sorties (81,000 flying hours) per year, and owns and operates a fleet of over 200 T-1, T-6, and T-38 aircraft.
