VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. --   The Vance Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program begins operations Tuesday, Jan. 20, offering free federal and state tax preparation for Team Vance members.

The free tax service is available for active-duty members, Department of Defense civilians, Reserve and National Guard members, retirees and family members.

Customers, at a minimum, should bring the following to their VITA appointment to speed up their return: 2007 tax return; Social Security cards for member and all family members; military ID; all W2s, 1099Rs, 1099Misc, 1099Int, and 1099Div; education expenses; child-care expenses; student loan interest; IRA contributions and any other relevant documents.

In addition, customers should also bring their bank routing and account numbers for the automatic deposit of refunds or payment of taxes due. If filing a joint return, both taxpayers need to be present to sign the 8879's before the return can be e-filed.

W2s and 1099R are available now for civilians and retired personnel through myPay. W2s for active duty personnel are scheduled for release Jan. 23.
