Annual award winners for 2012 honored at banquet

Outstanding members of the 71st Flying Training Wing and CSC Applied Technologies were recognized during the 2012 Annual Awards banquet held Feb. 7 at the Vance Air Force Base Collocated Club.

The evening was organized around a boxing theme which included gloves, a championship belt and a flash dance to the song, "We are the Champions," by Queen.

Winners of the 2012 Annual Awards for 71st FTW members were:
  • Airman of the Year - Senior Airman Matthew S. Garrette, 71st Operations Support Squadron
  • NCO of the Year - Staff Sgt. Shawna M. Houston, 71st Medical Support Squadron
  • Senior NCO of the Year - Master Sgt. Jason K. Trickey, 71st OSS
  • Company Grade Officer of the Year - Capt. Mark W. Hassett, 71st MDSS
  • Field Grade Officer of the Year - Maj. Samuel B. Tobler, 71st Medical Operations Squadron
  • Civilian of the Year, Category I -- Jennifer L. Hughes, 71st MDSS
  • Civilian of the Year, Category II -- Joel A. Urdang, 71st MDOS
  • Contracting Office Representative of the Year - Master Sgt. Kendall R. Kirk, 71st FTW
  • Honor Guard Member of the Year - Senior Airman Joshua C. Becerra, 71st OSS
  • Volunteer of the Year - Senior Airman Alisha M. Jones, 71st OSS
  • Instructor Pilot of the Year - Capt. Benjamin E. Walters, 25th Flying Training Squadron
  • Reserve Instructor Pilot of the Year - Maj. Ian A. Bass, 5th Flying Training Squadron
  • First Sergeant of the Year - Senior Master Sgt. Scott E. Swain, 71st Operations Group

  • Labor Grade 5-8 -- Christy Mewherter, Coordinator-Aircraft Engines

  • First Line Supervisor -- Ken Broder, Bowling Center Supervisor
