What if everyone reported the most under-reported crime in America on the same day?

VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Report It Now campaign is a call to all victims of sexual assault -- including rape, incest and abuse -- to report the crimes April 29, either officially to police or anonymously on reportitnow.org.

According to PAVEingtheway.com, the Report It Now campaign is a nationwide, state-to-state rally on April 29 to raise awareness of the prevalent victim-blaming that contributes to vast under-reporting of sexual violence and low rates of prosecution. Report It Now campaign's goal is to call for removal of statutes of limitations on reporting sexual abuse to increase victims' chances for justice.

April 29 was chosen in honor of Angela Shelton, an actress, screenwriter, documentary film producer, and survivor of sexual assault. April 29 is her birthday.

The campaign began last year, garnering a huge amount of success. Many hundreds of survivors reported online. Although these were not official reports to authorities, it provided an outlet for those who did not know who their attacker was, who were afraid to report the crime, or who thought no one would believe them.

At Vance AFB, survivors have several other outlets available. They can go directly to the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, Sheryl McMullen, located in Bldg. 312, who helps survivors start on the road of healing and empowerment. Ms. McMullen is available to speak to survivors about restricted and unrestricted reporting, explain the prosecution process, give information about on and off-base helping agencies. She can provide a network of support, including assigning a victim advocate specially chosen for that survivor.
