Pizza Hut grabs title at base library’s pizza tasting

VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Seven pizzerias from Enid, and a mystery entry, competed in this year’s “Take a slice off the shelf” pizza tasting at the Vance Library, Jan. 26.

Eight-six Team Vance members spent the lunch hour comparing the pizzas and determined that Pizza Hut was the best of the bunch.

In addition to best overall, the Pizza Hut entry was named best crust, with Marco’s Pizza selected for best sauce. The Mazzio’s Italian Eatery entry had the best cheese according to the tasters.

Also participating in the competition were Deco Pizzeria, Domino’s Pizza, Napoli’s Italian Restaurant and Papa John’s Pizza.

The mystery entry was delivered by Col. Dwayne LaHaye, the 71st Mission Support Group commander. It was five pizzas from the Vance Club -- two combinations, a pepperoni, a sausage and one cheese.

The pizza tasting was organized by Mary Arthur, the Vance librarian, and her staff with the help of the 71st Force Support Squadron’s marketing office.

This was the fifth year the library held the pizza tasting.
