Stealing partners

Twelve members of the Chickasaw Nation Dance Troupe bring members of the Team Vance audience to join them onstage in the base auditorium for a tribal dance in which people steal dance partners. The Dance Troupe performed a series of tribal stomp dances, from the Friendship Dance to the Doubleheader. All members participated in stomping; the men had the vocal roles in each dance, while the women kept rhythm with instruments fastened to their calves. The group, primarily from Ada, Okla., toured Vance Air Force Base and met with the base Cultural Committee for lunch. The event was part of Vance’s celebration of November as National American Indian Heritage Month. (U.S. Air Force Photo by Terry Wasson)
