End of an era: Last T-37 student flight
(Photo by Frank McIntyre) Retired Lt. Col. Wayne Johnson, Mooreland, Okla., discusses the last T-37 student flight at Vance with 2nd Lt. Frank Rabena, Class 07-08, and his instructor pilot, 1st Lt. Carl Friend, 33rd Flying Training Squadron. According to the April 7, 1961 Airscoop, “at 7:30 a.m. April 3,1961, (then) Lt. Wayne Johnson broke ground and became the first instructor pilot taking an undergraduate student pilot to the air in a T-37 from Vance AFB.”
