It's time again to pay the federal and state governments' annual income tax. And whether you're a Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, contractor or government civilian there is a program at Vance to help you figure out how much you owe, or if you're lucky, how much you will get back.

According to the website, mypay.dfas.mil, active duty Army, Air Force and Navy members should have received their W-2s Jan. 24. Active and reserve Marines; civilians; reserve Army, Air Force and Navy members; and retirees had access to their W-2s before then.

Once a member has his or her W-2 and supporting documentation they can schedule an appointment with a tax assistance representative.

Vance tax assistants are:
Steve Long, 71st Logistics Readiness Squadron, 213-6309
Capt. Otto Gerdeman, 25th Flying Training Squadron, 213-7708
Staff Sgt. Brett Polzin, 71st Communications Squadron, 213-5743
Ed Myer, 71st Security Forces Squadron, 213-6421
Shelly Lohan, 32nd Flying Training Squadron, 213-6346

Tax assistants here can help members with basic filing but are not trained to help Team Vance members with self-employment returns or complicated investments.

To make income tax filing as painless as possible, Team Vance members should bring copies of W-2s, bank account routing and account numbers, interest income statements, dividends statements, mortgage statements, education expenses, day-care expenses and the Social Security numbers for family members to their appointment.

A hiccup Vance filers' have felt is when newlywed wives have not changed their names with the Social Security Administration, said Ed Myer, the Tax Assistance Program administrator.

According the Myer, military members can use tax preparation software available on Military One Source, www.militaryonesource.mil.
