4/8/2011 - VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- In the event of a partial government shutdown, the Base Exchange at Vance is planning to continue operations, said Rosalina Johnson, with the AAFES regional general manager's office. The office is responsible for exchanges at Tinker AFB, Tulsa, McAlester, Camp Gruber and here.

The Vance Commissary will still maintain regular operating hours as well.

If a continuing resolution or budget is not approved by midnight, Friday, April 8, there will be a mandatory shutdown of non-essential government functions, but the Exchange Service will be largely unaffected, said Ms. Johnson.

AAFES operates with non-appropriated funds, which will not be affected by the shutdown.

"This means the majority of our budget does not rely on tax dollars," said Ms. Johnson. However, some transactions may be delayed, such as the purchase of guns, which require background checks, or other federal government actions, she said.

AAFES customers can visit the online store at www.shopmyexchange.com.
