Dragons take softball championship with narrow victory

VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 33rd Flying Training Squadron’s “Dragons” softball team captured the 2017 Vance softball championship with a hard-fought 16-15 victory over the 71st Student Squadron’s “A-Team” June 7.

The win earns the Dragons 38 points toward the 2017 Commander Trophy.

Earlier in the evening, the A-Team defeated the 25th Flying Training Squadron, 16-6, and the 71st Operations Support Squadron, 15-5, before taking on the Dragons.

The Dragons beat the 71st Security Forces Squadron, 18-5, June 1; and the 71st OSS, 10-8, June 5, to get to the championship game.

In the race for the Commander Trophy, the Dragons are in 3rd place with 60 points, behind the 3rd Flying Training Squadron with 71. The 71st STUS is currently in the lead with 74.
