Lieutenant dies in residence on base Published Oct. 6, 2019 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – Second Lt. Vito A. Valenzuela died in his room on base, Oct. 4, 2019. “We are deeply saddened to share this news with Vito’s family, peers and Team Vance,” said 71st Flying Training Wing Commander Col. Corey Simmons. “Although new to our team, he was already making an impact. His absence will be felt across the Wing and the community.” Valenzuela was a member of the 71st Student Squadron at Vance and had been stationed here since late July. A service will be held at the base in the near future.
