VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- One of Team Vance’s own was recognized as an Air Education and Training Command outstanding civilian employee this year.

Jeffrey J. Simon, the Communications Flight director for the 71st Installation Support Squadron, was named an Air Education & Training Command 2020 Air Force Association Lisa S. Disbrow Outstanding Civilian of the Year.

The award recognizes an Air Force civilian employee who exemplifies the professionalism and dedication to duty of former Under Secretary of the Air Force Lisa S. Disbrow.

“Mr. Simon played a pivotal role in supporting and sustaining all the accomplishments of 2019,” said Maj. Allen Batiste, commander of the 71st ISS. “This award provided us a great opportunity to recognize him for his efforts throughout the year.”

Simon served as director of 390 Airmen and contractors providing civil engineering, communications and logistics support for Vance’s flying and training operations.

He managed a $6 million project to build a temporary flying operations facility and coordinated $3 million in unfunded requests to procure cyber assets and a maintenance-hangar door project two years ahead of schedule.

“I can't think of anyone more deserving than Jeff to win this award,” said Batiste. “For years members of Team Vance have seen and recognized the stellar performance of Mr. Simon, and now it's great to see that recognition from the AETC level and beyond.”
