VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Dr. Joseph Lister would be proud of the current emphasis on frequent hand washing.

In the 1800s, he pioneered the practice of surgeons washing their hands before surgery to avoid infections in their patients.

As cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus, COVID-19, spread around the world, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending you wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.

Out of an abundance of caution, beginning March 13, Joint Base San Antonio officials are suspending all guest attendance for basic military training graduation ceremonies to reduce potential spread of COVID-19.
