Former Vance commander guest speaker at Class 23-11 graduation

VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – Twenty-four students in Undergraduate Pilot Training Class 23-11 received their wings during a ceremony held June 16 at Vance Air Force Base.

Having completed their initial aviation training in the T-6A Texan II, the newly pinned pilots will continue in either the T-1A Jayhawk or the T-38C Talon training aircraft at Vance.

The guest speaker at the Class 23-11 graduation ceremony was Air Force Col. Corey Simmons, the 618th Air Operations Center commander at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Simmons was the 71st Flying Training Wing commander at Vance from July 2018 to July 2020.

The Class 23-11 award winners were:
1st Lt. Katherine Emanuel and 2nd Lt. Jaden Moore received the Academic Award;
Capt. Davonte Deloney received the Leadership Award;
2nd Lt. Landon Compton received the Flying Training Award and was named a Distinguished Graduate;
2nd Lt. Noah Woodfall received the Air Education & Training Command Commander's Trophy, the Wingman Award, and was named a Distinguished Graduate.

Also receiving their pilot wings during the ceremony were: Capt. Hannah Reed; 1st Lts. Lindsey Blanks, Duc Pham, Maya Slavin; 2nd Lts. Griffin Braun, Kevin Funa, Mohan Gooneratne, Kaylee Heck, Ashton Hoopes, Tanner Jordan, Casey Kowalski, Joshua Lassiter, Nicholas Lee, John McLaughlin, Casey Rodriguez, John Sitter, Steven Todd, Fuhren Tsai and Jonathan Warren.
