Local district attorney takes orientation ride in T-38

Michael Fields, the district attorney for District 4 in Oklahoma, received an orientation flight in the T-38 Talon trainer aircraft July 17 at Vance Air Force Base.

The orientation ride, in the same aircraft used to train student pilots at Vance, is one of the perks for being selected honorary commander of the 71st Operations Group.

As an honorary commander, Fields also participates in unit activities, quarterly tours of other organizations and is invited to official functions at Vance.

As it turns out, Fields knew the T-38 pilot that flew his orientation ride. Lt. Col. Matthew Johnston, deputy commander of the 71st Operations Group, grew up in Enid, graduating from Enid High School in the same class as Fields in 1990.
