The Vance Chapel staff and the Sexual Assault Prevention Response office hosted a Single Airmen night May 18 at the Community Chapel Activity Center on base.

More than 20 Airmen attended the event, which featured burgers, hot dogs, home-cooked baked beans and the chance to spend time with their peers.

This is the second Single Airmen night the SAPR office and Chapel staff have organized with the dual purpose of informing Airmen about their services and providing a casual setting for Vance's single Airmen to socialize.

"Earlier this year I did a needs assessment to see what the junior enlisted Airmen would like to have available to them," said Terri Presa, the Vance Sexual Assault Response Coordinator. "One of the things they suggested was having a night designed for single Airmen, so I got with the Chapel and we did it."

Both Single Airmen nights have received positive feedback.

"I attended both events and I think what they are doing is great," said Airman 1st Class Lydia Lewis, a dental technician with the 71st Medical Operations Squadron. "It gives me something to do and a place to meet up with my friends.

"I really hope they expand these events," said Lewis.

"I really appreciate the effort the SARC and Chapel staff put into this," said Airman 1st Class Alvin Gordon, a public health technician with the 71st MDOS. "It really facilitates face-to-face social interaction rather than just texting on cell phones."

While those attending the event played card games, shot pool and got to know their fellow Airmen, Presa took the opportunity to introduce herself.

"I feel that if people know me informally they will be more likely to come to me should they need me in as a SARC," said Presa.

The SAPR office and Chapel staff plan to have another Single Airmen night in June.
