Airman & Family Readiness Center throws Kids' Goodbye Party Bash June 9 Published June 1, 2011 By Jessica Gibson 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- As summer rolls in, many families on Vance are preparing for a permanent change of station. To help with the transition, the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Building 314, is hosting a Goodbye Party Bash from 6 to 7 p.m. June 9. Military family members, ages 4 to 18, who are preparing to move this summer are invited. The party includes games and a cakewalk with prizes specifically aimed at helping kids transition through the moving process, like books, stationary kits and guides to online communication. Military Family Life counselors will be available for the kids with advice on some of the less technical aspects of a PCS, such as how to make friends at their new home. Aside from having a good time, the party will focus on giving kids some useful tools to help them adjust and transition smoothly. Maggie Laws, the relocation manager at the A&FRC, said that kids who felt well-liked and appreciated in the previous home are more confident going into a new environment. The Goodbye Party Bash is intended to reinforce the kids' feelings of appreciation and community at Vance before they embark on their new adventure. For information, or to volunteer at the event, contact Ms. Laws at the A&FRC, 213-6330.
