Sheryl McMullen, Vance's Sexual Assault Response coordinator, traveled to Oklahoma City March 24 to receive recognition for her work with the Project Achieve program held at Northern Oklahoma College in Enid.

She was selected as the Outstanding Community/Agency Partner for North West Oklahoma by the Oklahoma Career and Technical Education Equity Council.

Oklahoma state Rep. John Enns and Oklahoma state Sen. Patrick Anderson presented Ms. McMullen a plaque and certificates.

Project Achieve is a Department of Human Services initiative that provides job skills training to people receiving temporary assistance to needy families. "These are people with children who have left abusive situations," said Ms. McMullen. "I go to NOC once a week over my lunch hour and work with them on relationship skills, self-esteem and decision making," she said.

Working with Project Achieve is one of the best things she does, said Ms. McMullen. "When you can watch a person making progress, going toward goals and leaving behind a really bad life - it is just awesome."

Her certificate from Rep. Enns stated, "Your commitment and dedication of time to the service of helping to remove barriers to families in poverty is admirable and greatly appreciated."

Ms. McMullen has been Vance's SARC since she opened the office in July 2005.
