Vance pediatrician technician named the 2023 U.S. Air Force Aerospace Medicine Airman of the Year Published March 19, 2024 By Senior Airman Christian Soto 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. - Senior Airman Kelly Miller is the 2023 U.S. Air Force Aerospace Medicine Airman of the Year. “I always thought an Air-Force-level award in the medical field meant you had to save a bajillion lives in the field,” said Miller. “I am honored to be recognized by the Air Force and truly grateful to Vance Air Force Base for putting me in a position to receive such recognition.” The award highlights the highest level of excellence in Aerospace Medicine among Air Force personnel, recognizing the most distinguished Airman across the entire service. Miller, who is a pediatrician technician assigned to the 71st Healthcare Operations Squadron, hit the ground running when she got to Vance. Miller's foremost attribute as an Airman is her dedication to her duties and exceptional work ethic, said Staff Sgt. Chantel Cannon, the NCO in charge of Family Health in the 71st HCOS. “She’s definitely a self-starter,” said Cannon. “She takes care of her people, making sure they are aware of information being passed down from leadership. “You do not often see a senior airman who has an all-encompassing role in the day-to-day operations. I am super proud of her and I know she is going to do great and amazing things,” said Cannon. While the award singles out Miller, she emphasized it could not have been done without her team. “This something you do not achieve by yourself,” said Miller. “The award was given to me specifically but I am nothing without my team.” Looking ahead, Miller is committed to remaining in the Air Force, steadfast in her determination to uphold its mission and provide unwavering support. “I plan on staying in as long as the Air Force will have me,” said Miller.
