The United States will have a new citizen Friday when Airman 1st Class Alfonso Galan-Reyes takes the oath of allegiance at a naturalization ceremony in Oklahoma City.

Airman Galan-Reyes is a computer support technician with the 71st Communications Squadron here.

Although his family in Chicago won't be able to attend, Airman Galan-Reyes won't be alone at the ceremony. Technical Sgt. Michelle Jenkins, his supervisor, and Ms. Cecily Odom, the 71st CS director, will make the journey to the Federal Court House with him.

Airman Galan-Reyes submitted his citizenship application in March this year. He entered the Air Force in 2006 under a general contract.

From Maravatio, Mexico, he came to the United States with his mother in 1993 to join his father in Chicago. He was 8 years old at the time.

"I always knew I would become a citizen," he said. The test he had to take on U.S. history and government was "a piece of cake."
