Team Vance members perform in local production of “South Pacific” Published July 23, 2008 By Joe B. Wiles 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, "South Pacific," is playing at the Gaslight Theatre in Enid this weekend. Members of Team Vance are performing in a variety of roles in the production. "South Pacific" is a story of passion, prejudice and romance set against the tragedy of World War II. Based on James Michener's Pultizer Prize winning collection of short stories, "Tales of the South Pacific," the show features the songs "I'm Gonna Wash that Man Right Outa My Hair," "Bali Ha'i" and "Some Enchanted Evening." The Team Vance involvement includes active duty, family members and even a summer hire. Pamelyne Guillory, wife of Master Sgt. Jefferson D. Guillory III, the 71st Logistics Readiness Squadron superintendent, portrays Bloody Mary, a shrewd Tokinese souvenir dealer who is also trying to find her daughter, Liat, a rich husband. Joe Redman plays the role of a young Navy officer who falls in love with Bloody Mary's daughter. Joe is the son of Kate Holdeman, the Youth Programs coordinator at Vance. Matthew Crowell, a summer hire with the Civil Engineering Department, is Stewpot, a sailor in the production. Matthew is the son of Miles Crowell, CSC deputy program manager, and Jamie Crowell, the 71st Flying Training Wing graduation coordinator. Sergeant Guillory plays the part of Henri, and his son, Jazz, plays Marcel, Henri's assistant. Final performances of "South Pacific" will be July 23, 25, 26 and 27.
