Three foreign nationals were on Vance Air Force Base this week as part of a tour of United States Air Force bases to learn more about the safety programs the Air Force uses.
Lt Col Qureshi Aftab, Pakistan, Maj Young Park, South Korea, and Maj Abdullah Suzuki, Malaysia, arrived here Monday on a flight safety internship to help improve the safety programs of their respective countries.
"The primary goal of the visit is to learn the safety aspect," said Lt Col Warren Ward, 71st chief of safety.
According to Major Suzuki, a helicopter pilot who serves as staff officer 2 for aircraft accidents in Malaysia, he came here to learn "a lot."
"I will ask a lot of things to bring back to country to improve our safety management," Major Suzuki said.
Starting in April, the three officers spent two weeks in Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, for Jet Engine Mishap training. They then spent 10 weeks at Kirtland AFB, N.M., for International Flight Safety Officer Course before coming to Vance AFB for a week.
While on base, the officers, among other things, learned about Vance AFB's accident reporting and Bird Air Strike Hazard programs as well as visited the engine shop, runway supervisory units and life support.
The three officers also had the opportunity to take advantage of their time here to get acquainted with the culture of Oklahoma, Colonel Ward said. They were taken on tours of Enid and the surrounding area which included meeting Enid's new mayor.
