Airman's Attic no longer needed; last chance to shop offered Published Jan. 5, 2007 By SrA Amanda Mills Public Affairs Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- The Vance Air Force Base Airman's Attic will officially close its doors May 10. "After being in operation for almost 15 months, a real need to sustain the attic is no longer needed," said CMSgt Jeff Kallas, 71st Flying Training Wing command chief. "This was also confirmed by the response from our enlisted corp during a recent poll." In order to provide another "last chance" opportunity, Team Vance Airmen E-1 through E-5 will be able to shop in the store from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday to May 7 and finally from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 8. "NCOs and senior NCOs will volunteer some time to work the attic so Airmen have every opportunity available to check out what the center offers," Chief Kallas said. "So please stop by!" After that time, leftover items will be sold through the Vance AFB thrift shop to benefit the Airman's Assistance Fund or donated to a local charity. Items such as uniforms may be available in the thrift shop for free. Airmen in need of assistance in the future can go through a first sergeant for help from the Airman's Assistance Fund. Chief Kallas passed on a special thanks to SSgt Tonya White, 71st Medical Group Dental Clinic, for her volunteer work at the attic. "Her personal commitment to the people of Vance [AFB] is highly commendable," he said.
