VAFB actors receive nominations Published Dec. 4, 2006 By Staff Sgt. Amanda Mills Public Affairs Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- Two Team Vance actors will be at the edge of their seats, waiting for the announcement of award winners at Gaslight Theatre's Charlie Awards Aug. 27. Staff Sgt. John Rogers and Pam Guillory each have two nominations for their supporting and cameo roles in Gaslight Theatre productions during 2004. Sergeant Rogers, formerly a 71st Operations Support Squadron weather technician, was nominated as Best Actor in a Supporting role and Best Actor in a Cameo role in "The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wilde." Mrs. Guillory, a Team Vance spouse, was nominated as Best Actress in a Supporting role for "The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wilde" and as Best Actress in a Cameo role for "The Sunshine Boys." Now on a remote assignment in Korea, Sergeant Rogers will receive word from his wife by e-mail if he wins. "The nomination feels great," Sergeant Rogers said. "I recently married my high school sweetheart and relocated her from New Jersey to Enid just a couple months before leaving for Korea. To give her and her son some stability, I chose Vance for my follow on assignment, so Enid has really become home. When you're away from home it's always nice to know the folks are thinking about you." Both people began acting while they were in high school, and loved the experience. "When my family (changed stations) to Vance, I still loved acting," Mrs. Guillory said. "Being a stay-at-home mom, I wanted something more to do. I found the Gaslight Theatre in the phone book, auditioned and got the part. It's been a lot of fun." The actors are especially pleased with their relationship with the theatre. The cast and crew are all volunteers and the director does a great job of helping to bring out the best in the actors, Mrs. Guillory said. "Each production is a diverse group of people," Sergeant Rogers added. "We start with a bare stage and all work together in every aspect of putting on a live performance. Two months later there are full sets, costumes, lighting and sound. When the audience leaves entertained there is a great sense of accomplishment. The Vance community has always played a significant part at Gaslight, another opportunity to make a personal investment into the Enid community that does so much for us." The Gaslight Theatre is looking for two men and two women for their upcoming production, "Proof." Auditions begin at 8 p.m. Aug. 29 and 30. For more information, call the theatre at 234-2307.
