Vance leaders released an updated mission and vision for the 71st Flying Training Wing July 16.

"It's been more than three years since our mission, vision and priorities have been fine tuned to reflect changes within Air Education and Training Command and the Air Force," said Col. James Lackey, the 71st FTW vice commander. "Col. (Clark) Quinn, Chief (Peter) Speen and I worked to ensure that these new statements are simple, direct and dovetail perfectly with the outstanding work our Airmen are accomplishing every day."

Quinn, the 71st FTW commander, has been on station for a year, but waited to update the mission and vision until he had a complete understanding of the wing's unique mission, said Lackey.

"He wanted to do this to minimize the impact to Airmen working in the trenches," said Lackey.

The changes were very minor, easy to memorize, and many Airmen won't notice much of a difference, said Chief Master Sgt. Peter Speen, the 71st FTW command chief.

"We are still going to 'Develop Airmen, Deliver Pilots and Deploy Warriors,'" he said.

The new vision reads, "An efficient, empowered organization dedicated to producing the world's best pilots."

The new Priorities read, "Accomplish the Mission, Take Care of Airmen and Families, Uphold Standards."

First line supervisors should ensure each of their Airmen understands the new mission statement and how they fit in to the big picture, said Speen.

Commanders will also be briefing the changes during upcoming commander's calls, so be sure to ask them questions, said Lackey.
