Vance Airman receives Article 15 Published May 13, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Graham Davis 71st Flying Training Wing Staff Judge Advocate Office VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- One military member assigned to Vance Air Force Base received an Article 15 non-judicial punishment during the first quarter of 2015. A technical sergeant was given an Article 15 for failing to properly dispose of unserviceable military property. Instead of disposing of the unserviceable military property the member attempted to sell the property. The member received a suspended reduction to staff sergeant and a reprimand. An Article 15 is a disciplinary measure used to promote positive behavioral changes in service members without the stigma of a court-martial. It can be given for violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice or violations of state or federal laws. Punishment under Article 15 can affect promotions, assignments and re¬enlistment opportunities. Commanders can tailor decisions on each punishment to the circumstances of the offense and the member's past disciplinary history.
