Paralegal named Airman of the Month Published Nov. 12, 2014 By Senior Airman Frank Casciotta 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- A 71st Flying Training Wing Judge Advocate Office paralegal is the 71st Flying Training Wing Airman of the Month for November. Airman 1st Class Graham Davis was selected by group superintendents based on his work performance and merit as an Airman. While catching up on paperwork after coming back from leave, Davis stood as Col. Clark Quinn, the 71st Flying Training Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Peter Speen, the 71st FTW command chief, strolled into the JAG office with a small entourage Nov. 6. "When I heard them start talking about the Airman of the Month I assumed it was for Airman Gause," said Davis. "She works her tail off, and has been mentoring me since I got here. I remember thinking 'she deserves it.' Then, they said my name and I was flabbergasted." Airman 1st Class Shafiyquca Gause is a paralegal who works with Davis. Davis is in charge of the military justice section for the legal office, which means, he ensures Airmen facing discipline are informed of any legal action being taken against them and given an appropriate amount of time to respond to any allegations. "I like my job because I feel like I make a difference," said Davis, a Pittsburgh native. "I do a lot of research for the attorneys in my office, and they ask my opinion on cases." Davis has made himself known as a positive person around his office, and according to one of the attorneys he works with, that's what makes him stand out. "He is an outstanding Airman, but what I really like about him is his attitude," said Maj. Bryan Warnock, the 71st FTW staff judge advocate. "If you work around people who are tense all the time, it doesn't matter how good they are at their job, it makes the workplace uncomfortable. What he lacks now in experience, he more than makes up for in his outlook. You can teach people skillsets, but you can't change their attitude." For being selected as Airman of the Month, Davis will spend an Undergraduate Pilot Training graduation day shadowing Speen. Davis' shadow day will begin Nov. 21 at 7 a.m. where he will meet Speen at the Fitness Center and they will conduct physical training. From there, he will attend all meetings alongside Speen and participate in them. His day with Speen will end with a graduation dinner. "I'm excited to spend the day with Chief Speen," said Davis. "I think he's a major asset to the base, and I look forward to spending the day with him to see what his days are like, because one day I want to fill those shoes."
