A Ghost Rider learned he was the June Airman of the Month when the new 71st Flying Training Wing commander, Col. Clark Quinn, congratulated him in the Radar Approach Control break room June 23.

Senior Airman Matt London, a 5-level air traffic controller with the 71st Operations Support Squadron, received the news and a wing coin in front his fellow controllers, who packed the break room.

From Wilmington, Delaware, London is four years into a six-year enlistment. The past three and a half years have been at Vance.

Shortly after arriving, he was deployed to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, for four months as a third country national security escort.

London said air traffic control sounded like a good idea when he enlisted.

"I researched the fields available, and air traffic control sounded like every day would be new and different," he said.

London is open on the subject of an Air Force career. He sews on staff sergeant stripes July 1.
