Civil Air Patrol cadets train overnight at Vance Published March 3, 2014 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Cadets and leaders of the Oklahoma Civil Air Patrol Wing conducted training events and stayed overnight Feb. 21-23, at Vance Air Force Base. More than 60 cadets and senior members participated in "Training Leaders of Cadets," and "Cadet Leadership Academy" at the 71st Operations Support Squadron building. The first training event, TLC, is for senior members who focus on cadet programs and is part of the professional development for those on the Cadet Program Officer specialty track. CLA is designed to give CAP cadet officers, NCOs and Airmen a broader range of leadership skills. CAP is the auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. Beginning as a volunteer organization during World War II, CAP officially became part of the U.S. Air Force when Congress passed Public Law 557 in 1948. CAP's primary missions are aerospace education, cadet programs and emergency services. Youth ages 12 to 18 can join CAP as cadets. Adults 18 and over can join as senior members.
