Installation patrolman named Airman of the Month Published Oct. 16, 2013 By Senior Airman Frank Casciotta 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Airman 1st Class Kimberly Ross, an installation patrolman with the 71st Security Forces Squadron, is the 71st Flying Training Wing Airman of the Month for September. This was Ross' first time meeting an Airman of the Month board since her arrival at Vance in February 2012. "I was nervous because I felt a little unprepared with only a two-day notice before I met the board," said Ross, a Lakewood, Wash. native. "I gave a door a firm 'defenders knock' and walked in determined to make my squadron proud." The 21-year-old Ross completed her Community College of the Air Force degree April of this year and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in administrative leadership. Her goal is to finish her education and become a lawyer once she fullfills her commitment to the Air Force. Her inspiration to be a lawyer comes from her father who is a lawyer. "I admire my dad," said Ross. "He fights for the little guy and I want to be able to do the same thing one day." Each month Airmen across Vance are selected to represent their squadrons as the Airman of the Month. Candidates face a board made up of a chief, a senior NCO, a NCO and the previous month's Airman of the Month. They are judged on their military bearing, dress and appearance, and their knowledge of current events about the Air Force and the world around them.
