Vance donates almost 4 tons of food to Feds Feed Families Published Sept. 11, 2013 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Team Vance donated 7,476 pounds of food to a local food bank during the 2013 Feds Feed Families campaign that ended Aug. 30. "We exceeded our target by 373 percent," said Capt. Chris Hall, the organizer for the food drive. The local food bank, Loaves and Fishes of Northwest Oklahoma, was happy to receive the donations, said Hall. "It is the time of year when the shelves run bare." Feds Feed Families is a U.S. Department of Agriculture food drive that began in 2009. It offers federal workers the chance to support families across America. More than 15.2 million pounds of food and other non-perishable items have been donated since the program began. "This food drive would not have been successful without the help of each and every person who selflessly donated," said Col. Darren James, the 71st Flying Training Wing commander. "I am humbled by Team Vance's generosity and honored to serve with each of you. It is inspiring to see our Airmen exemplifying Service Before Self," said James. The almost 4 tons of food donated by Vance Air Force Base will provide 6,000 meals to hungry people in and around Enid, said Hall, who is also an instructor pilot and executive officer with the 8th Flying Training Squadron. The 25th Flying Training Squadron, under the leadership of Capt. Eric Mees, collected 2,858 pounds of donations for the food drive. The 71st Security Forces Squadron, under the guidance of Airman 1st Class Kimberly Ross, provided 1,655 pounds of food to the Feds Feed Families campaign.
