Commitment to our community the best Published Jan. 4, 2007 By Col Mike Callan 71st Flying Training Wing Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- Team Vance -- your commitment to our community makes working at Vance AFB the best!Today, Chief Jeff Kallas and I are returning from Washington, D.C., where we met the Oklahoma Congressional Delegation and passed one message -- serving at Vance AFB is a blessing and we need their help to continue placing Vance AFB at the top of their priorities for legislative support. I fully expect this D.C. trip to be a great success, and Vance AFB and our military construction desires are going to be received openly and warmly. Also today we are honored to host this year's Oklahoma Special Olympics and it promises to be a fantastic event. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., the parade of athletes begins at 9 a.m. and opening ceremonies kickoff at 9:20 a.m.! Col Wade Johnson and Enid Mayor Irv Honingsberg will officiate the event and have the honor of awarding the athletes following the competition. Team Vance's commitment to this event has been fantastic, and due to your efforts, it promises to be full of smiles, joy and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment by participants and volunteers alike. Finally, our center runway is open for business again and the recent severe weather, including some big thunderstorms and the possibility for tornadoes, reminds all of us to PLEASE continue doing your VITAL part in accomplishing our mission BUT do it safely. As I drive around our great base, I am constantly impressed by your dedication to our mission of "Expeditionary Air Warriors Training Tomorrow's Leaders" -- have a great weekend!!
