71st FTW congratulates chiefs Published Dec. 8, 2006 By Col Mike Callan 71st Flying Training Wing Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- Team Vance -- I've been on temporary duty for a few weeks and I can say without reservation, it's great to be back among the world's best warriors! Let me begin by congratulating Chief Dan Mason for serving our Air Force for over 30 years and wishing him the absolute very best in retirement! His retirement ceremony on Thursday was done with a "touch of class" and as a warrior throughout his career, he deserved nothing less. Chief Mason's service to Team Vance has been tremendous and we know as life "slows down" in Washington state, the Chief will finally have the time to reflect on what has been a great career in the world's greatest Air Force. As Chief Mason departs, allow me to formally welcome CMSgt Jeff Kallas to Team Vance. As our new command chief master sergeant, everyone should know that like Chief Mason, Chief Kallas is an expeditionary warrior as well. I encourage all of you to access the wing Website and review the Chief's career bio -- very impressive! On my no-notice trips around the base, I look forward to getting him out from behind his desk and introducing him to all of you! Speaking of chiefs, we recently received notification that one of Vance AFB's finest has been promoted to CMSgt -- SMSgt Kent Wilkinson of the 71st Security Forces Squadron found out this week he was selected for chief master sergeant. Last time I saw, him he was still smiling -- fantastic job Kent and we look forward to pinning on those "very heavy" nine stripes soonest! Finally, tomorrow is a special day for two reasons. First of all, it's St Valentine's Day and therefore it reminds us to thank our "Valentine(s)" for the love and support they bring to our lives. Additionally, the Air Force's "Tops in Blue" will be performing in town Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center. This fine group of Air Force professionals puts on a tremendous stage and musical show and I encourage everyone to come out with their families and enjoy this free performance. Please continue to think SAFETY and have a safe and quality three-day weekend with friends and family!
