Flying Cadet Baker

Ernest Baker’s son, Ralph Baker, was a flying cadet at Enid Army Air Field, shortly after the field opened in 1941. He is standing next to the Vultee BT-13 “Valiant,” the basic trainer flown by most American pilots during World War II. Ernest Baker sold the family farm to the War Department so Enid Army Air Field could be built. (Courtesy photo)
