Cowen accepts command of Mission Support Group

VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – Col. Dwayne LaHaye relinquished command of the 71st Mission Support Group to Col. Yancey Cowen during a change-of-command ceremony held June 29 at the Fire Station.

The ceremony official, Col. Fred R. Cunningham, the vice commander of the 71st Flying Training Wing, signaled the transfer of command by passing the 71st MSG guidon to Cowen.

LaHaye will continue his Air Force career at Maxwell AFB, Alabama.

Cowen comes to Vance AFB from United States Forces Korea where he was the Assistant Chief of Staff, J1.

“We will build and sustain a culture of pervasive professionalism,” said Cowen. “Our priorities will mirror the wing commander’s priorities of: accomplish the mission, take care of Airmen and families, and uphold standards. Upholding standards represents the very fabric of our profession.”

The 71st MSG provides base support to Vance AFB’s Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training and the wing’s tenant units.
