We hear you – Child Development Center responds to survey concerns Published June 26, 2013 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- (The following are responses to concerns Team Vance members raised when responding to the 2013 "Caring for People" survey conducted in March.) Concern: Why is there a lack of availability of child care at Vance Air Force Base? Response: The Child Development Center at Vance can handle 65 children. The center operates at full or close to full capacity with a waiting list in most age groups. Currently, there are no approved Family Child Care homes at Vance. Anyone interested in becoming a child-care home should contact the CDC, 213-7310. Concern: Why is there no indoor play area for the children at the CDC? Response: The current CDC facility indoor space is fully used to care for the children. There is no extra space available to support an indoor play area. There are currently no military construction project funds allotted to build a larger facility. Concern: How is priority placement of children in the CDC determined - particularly between active duty and non active duty parents? Response: The CDC priority placement policy is strictly in compliance with Department of Defense Instruction 6060.2, "Child Development Programs"; DODI 6060.3, "School-Age Care Program"; and Air Force Instruction 34-248, "Child Development Centers".
