Name: Danielle Smorol

Base affiliation: My husband, Capt. Chris Smorol, works in Wing Safety as a flight-safety officer and is attached to the 3rd Flying Training Squadron as an instructor pilot.

Do you go to school? I have a Bachelor of Arts in English from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. I'm in my last semester of my master's degree in Professional Writing at Oklahoma State University.

Do you work? I'm currently a graduate teaching assistant at OSU. I've worked in the Writing Center as a tutor, taught sections of freshman composition, and this semester, I'm working as a research assistant helping design curriculum for a new course. Previously, I taught high school English for four years.

Do you have any hobbies? My husband and I enjoy cycling, spending long weekends in Colorado, ball games and NASCAR. I'm also excited to be reading books for the 3rd Spouses' Book Club.

Do you volunteer? I haven't had much time to volunteer here in Enid, but this past fall, I was a co-campus coordinator for National Food Day events at OSU.

What's your favorite thing about Enid? All of the gravel and dirt roads! We have cyclocross bikes that allow us to take any road we want, and there are a lot of gravel and dirt roads to explore. We can take the roads less traveled.

Challenges you've overcome and/or advice to new spouses: When we came to Vance, we were hoping to avoid deployments for a while, but ended up getting a six-month deployment. Finding ways to stay connected is important. My husband and I have Skype dates to watch "The Walking Dead" together.

Sarina is the Key Spouse for the 3rd Flying Training Squadron and is married to Capt. Jacob Houston in the 3rd FTS at Vance AFB.
