Military personnel actions unavailable during software upgrade

The Air Force is scheduled to upgrade the Military Personnel Data System and transfer it to the Defense Information System Agency's Defense Enterprise Computing Center March 13.

During the transfer and upgrade period, the Military Personnel Section at Vance AFB will not have the capability to perform any updates.

"The current Military Personnel Data System is based on 1990s software/technology," said Diane McCurdy, the 71st Force Support Squadron director. "This update will modernize the browser, enable for increased input and allow for a faster response time."

MilPDS will be unavailable from March 4 to March 27, throughout the upgrade process.

Deadline for submitting applications and updates on the following programs is Feb. 15:
  • Applications for reenlistment, extension or separation
  • Applications for voluntary retirement
  • Scheduling of the defense language proficiency test for a foreign language proficiency bonus
  • Update to Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance
  • Duty information changes
  • Air Force Form 418 to deny reenlistment on an Airman with a date of separation between March 1 and March 31
  • Unit personnel management roster changes
Any application submitted after the deadline will be processed or updated after MilPDS comes back online.

Base pay and entitlements managed by Air Force finances offices will not be affected. However, non-critical pay-affecting updates -- promotion, special duty, bonus, etc. -- that occur while MilPDS is offline will be delayed until after the upgrade.

The Military Personnel Section and Air Force Personnel Center will update the majority of held transactions within 10 business days after MilPDS is online. Pay actions held during the migration will be retroactive to the actual effective date.

"Although (MPS) customers may not see a difference, their personnel record updates should flow through the system much more expeditiously under the new system," said McCurdy.
