Air Force Junior ROTC cadets from Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, Okla., toured Vance Air Force Base, Jan. 25.

The 30 cadets, all 11th and 12th-grade students, were accompanied by retired Air Force Col. Marcia Walker, the senior aerospace science instructor at the high school.

The tour was divided into two groups. The first group was taken to the 71st Operations Group where they were shown the T-1 flight simulators.

The second group toured a flying squadron's flight room, Life Support, and got a closeup look at a T-6A Texan II.

Then the cadets switched places.

Before departing the base, both groups gathered at the Falcon's Nest Bowling Center for lunch.

The JROTC is sponsored by the United States Armed Forces in high schools across the nation, with a mission to "Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community."

The curriculum in JROTC studies emphasizes the Air Force heritage and traditions, the development of flight, applied flight sciences, military aerospace policies and space exploration.

Among the cadets from Carl Albert High School, several are currently in the delayed enlistment program to enter enlisted service upon graduation while others are planning to attend college and continue in ROTC.
