Santa made an appearance a bit earlier this year during Vance Air Force Base's Breakfast with Santa, Dec. 1, in Hangar 170 on base.

More than 500 people attend the breakfast with nearly 200 children playing games and doing crafts. The event was open to all military and base personnel and their families.

Santa arrived promptly by fire truck at 9 a.m. to greet the children and then spent the rest of the morning posing for photos with families.

Members of the 71st Medical Group assisted with the photo sessions.

Local merchants provided the hot breakfast items, including sandwiches from Chick-fil-A and Burger King, mini-muffins from Port Lugano and cookies from the Queen of Cake.

Games for the children were built this year by Col. Mike and Donna McDaniel, the 71st Mission Support Group commander and his wife. The games included bean-bag toss through a gingerbread man, golf at the Christmas tree, ring toss onto candy canes and ping-pong ball toss into snowmen pails.

Members of the 71st Operations Group guided children through seven craft tables where they made Christmas cards, ornaments, holiday paper bags and paper plate Christmas trees. There was also face painting and cookie decorating.
