Twelve teams take on challenge of Vance’s 2012 Adventure Race Published Sept. 26, 2012 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Fifty-eight members of Team Vance participated in this year's Adventure Race held Saturday, Sept. 22. The race was a triathlon that included a four-mile run, two-mile raft event and a 12-mile bicycle ride, starting and ending at the base park. There were three Extreme teams and nine Relay teams in this year's race. Members of the Extreme teams were required to participate in all three segments of the race. Relay teams could participate in individual segments of the race. First place team in the Extreme division was the XYBoomers. Team members were: Joel Urdang, 71st Medical Group; Lt. Col. David Amato, 71st MDG; Lance Holmes, 71st Contracting Flight; and 2nd Lt. Randy Semrau, 71st Student Squadron. First place in the Relay division was Team Defender, the 71st Security Forces Squadron entry. Team members were Chief Master Sgt. Lisa Johnson, Tech. Sgt. Dean Eyster, Airman 1st Class Ryan Poston, Senior Airman Scott Brakefield and Airman 1st Class Nicholas Galbraith. Second place in the Extreme division was Fuzz Ferrets. Third place went to the Average Joes. Both teams came from the 71st SFS. Teams placing second through ninth in the Relay division were: RM, 71st STURON; The Llamateers, 32nd Flying Training Squadron; Team Olson, 32nd FTS; The Eagles, Wing Staff Agencies; Always Ready, 71st Logistics Readiness Squadron; The Viagra Vigilantes, 71st STURON; Ani Asi Ulawi (Military Personnel Flight), 71st Force Support Squadron; and Always Watching, 71st LRS.
