The 20 new staff sergeant selects here had an opportunity to learn about their upcoming transition from junior enlisted member to non-commissioned officer during a Staff Sergeant Summit held Aug. 18.

The summit attendees started the day raising the United States flag during reveille and spent the rest of the day taking in advice from senior NCOs regarding standards, discipline, customs and courtesies, Air Force history and guidance on their future career.

"I enjoyed hearing about Air Force traditions," said Senior Airman Rosa Garrette, a formal-training technician with the 71st Force Support Squadron. "I felt like the summit wasn't meant to make us NCOs but to remind us of what it takes to become one.

"One of the lessons that was a real eye-opener for me was realizing that being an NCO not only impacts the Airmen you are supervising but everyone they come in contact with," said Garrette.
