Chapel hosts rock climbing adventure for single Airmen

The Vance Chapel hosted a trip for single Airmen to Oklahoma City July 28 for a day of rock climbing and a spaghetti dinner.

Chaplain (Capt.) Jon Bravinder and Staff Sgt. Darick Alexander, with the Chapel staff, organized the trip to the Rocktown Climbing Gym in Oklahoma City because, according to Alexander, "We have a lot of programs for married Airmen and we want to start doing just as much for our single Airmen."

Rocktown Climbing Gym is housed in a former grain elevator and includes 16 silos that are 90-foot tall with hand-holds on both the inside and outside walls.

After the climbing, the 29-member group went to the Spaghetti Warehouse for dinner.

"We organized the event to generate a community bond with our Airmen," said Alexander. "We took an opportunity during dinner to talk about spiritual resiliency."

The Chapel staff plans to host more events like this one, said Alexander. The next one is a pool party Aug. 24 at the base pool.
