Italian menu featured at July SIGMO

More than 180 Vance Airmen had a taste of Italy during the July Singles' International Gourmet Meal Opportunity July 30 at the Community Chapel Activity Center.

Hosted by the Chapel staff and 13 volunteers from the 71st Flying Training Wing Staff Agencies this month, SIGMO is an opportunity for a free, home-cooked meal for single Airmen and families of deployed Airmen.

The menu included spaghetti with meat sauce, chicken Alfredo, baked ziti, and vegetarian lasagna, Italian green beans, garlic bread, salad and a variety of desserts.

To-go boxes were prepared for folks in the Radar Approach Control facility, Security Forces on duty and others unable to set down for the meal.

All the food -- except the deserts which were donated -- was prepared by the WSA volunteers in the CCAC kitchen.

Senior Airman Michelle Anthony with the 71st Comptroller Squadron, organized the WSA volunteers. "She was the first one at the CCAC, and the last one to leave," said 2nd Lt. Tom Barger, a volunteer from the 71st FTW Public Affairs Office.

"She directed the cooking, serving and problem solving -- always with a smile on her face," said Barger.

Senior wing leadership and their spouses were on the serving line, dishing up the food.

Music and decorations combined to create an Italian atmosphere for the SIGMO participants.

The August SIGMO is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 27, and will feature a "Tailgating" menu.
