The 71st Security Forces Squadron ended a week-long celebration of National Police Week with a retreat ceremony Friday, May 18, at the flag pole at Vance Air Force Base, Okla. Senior Master Sgt. National Police Week was started by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 when he signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as Police Week.
