Vance celebrates National Library Week Published April 11, 2012 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Vance Air Force Base Library is celebrating National Library Week, April 9 to 12, with local leaders reading to children each morning. Monday the children listened to Wes Felber, the lead fire fighter on Engine 9 with the Vance Fire Department. Tuesday Greg Waide with the Airman & Family Readiness Center read four books. Chaplain (Capt.) Jon Bravinder read to the kids Wednesday morning. His books were about learning numbers, words and colors. The final reader of the Library Week celebration was Col. Russ Mack, the 71st Flying Training Wing commander. Pens and pencils with Library information on them are available during National Library Week. The children attending the book reading sessions received special book marks. The theme for the summer reading program at the Library will be "Reading is so delicious," said Mary Arthur, the Vance librarian. She is receiving between 15 and 20 books a month aimed at children and young adults. The books are leased by the Department of Defense. "We are receiving books about cooking, healthy snacks and other subjects that relate to the summer theme," Arthur said. For more information about the Vance Library, call 213-7528.
