The Sexual Assault Response Coordinator's office and the Chapel staff held a Single Airmen night March 16 at the Community Chapel Activity Center on base.

The Single Airmen night is part of the SARC and Chapel initiative to build stronger bonds with the single Airmen community.

More than 30 Team Vance members attended the event looking forward to feasting on pizza and having a good time with their peers.

The Chapel staff spent $200 on the event. Soda, salad and 20 pizzas, were purchased from a local restaurant for the Airmen so they could help themselves to however much they wanted, said Staff Sgt. Darick Alexander, NCO in charge of program support with the 71st Flying Training Wing Chapel.

The Chapel staff created an atmosphere where Airmen could socialize and relax. Airmen entertained themselves by playing pool, ping-pong, board games, card games and having conversation. Video game systems and movies, though they were available, were left untouched.

"It's my goal to build personal relationships with the Airmen so in case they need me as a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator they will feel more comfortable approaching me," said Terri Presa, the SARC at Vance.

"We want this to become the living room of the community," said Chaplin (Capt.) Ruth Segres. "We put a lot of effort into programs designed for couples but plan to invest time, money and resources into taking care of the single Airmen community as well. They are just as important to the Air Force family."

"I really liked it," said Airman 1st Class Kyle Norbert with the 71st Operations Support Squadron. "I think it's good that the base is putting effort into making events like these. I'm definitely looking forward to the next one."

The next Single Airmen night is scheduled for May 18 at the CCAC. For more information, call the Chapel, 213-7211, or the SARC, 213-5598.
