A 3,260-pound piece of limestone is centered on a concrete slab next to the Visitors Control Center at Vance Air Force Base, Okla., by John Henry, foreground, and Shawn Miller, members of the CSC Applied Technologies Civil Engineering Pavements and Grounds. The loader was operated by Tom York, also with Pavements and Grounds. A stainless steel plate will be attached to the limestone as a memorial to the Chisholm Trail, the route cowboys used to herd more than 5 million cattle to stockyards in Abilene, Kan., during the second half of the 19th century. The Chisholm Trail passed along the east side of the land that is now Vance Air Force Base. The memorial will be complete by March 5. (U.S. Air Force photo/ Joe B. Wiles)
