Excellent turnout at annual Adventure Race Published Sept. 14, 2011 By Zach Sproul 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The fifth annual Vance Air Force Base Adventure Race took place Saturday, Sept. 10, at the base park with an estimated 20 teams turning out for the adventure. The winning Relay Team was the "Two-Wheel Wreckers" consisting of 2nd Lts. John Shalebriski, Justin Goodin, Samuel Peplin and Donald Feeley with a time of 1:23.52. The winning Xtreme Team was the "Ballers" consisting of Lt. Col. Joseph Roche and Capts. Jeremy Bergman, Peter Shayhorn and Eric Antonietti with a time of 1:29.10. "We appreciated the opportunity to compete," said Roche. "Thanks to the Fitness Center staff and all the volunteers that helped make it a huge success. We look forward to next year's race. Teams were broken down into two categories: the Xtreme Team Division which included four members or the Relay Team composed of three to six members. "We had perfect weather, an excellent turnout with more than 90 participants, a tasty down-home barbecue picnic, lots of great prize giveaways, and most of all, everyone had a great time," said Brian Mittelstet, the branch manager of the community services division at the Fitness Center. "We look forward to making next year's event even better." Relay results: First place - "Two-Wheel Wreckers" -- Shalekbriski, Goodin, Peplin and Feeley -- 1:23.52. Second place - "The Honey Badgers" -- Smoral, Reynolds, Smoral and Thuli -- 1:34.13. Third place - "See Ya!" -- Hynes, Criswell, Page and Lee -- 1:34.33. Extreme results: First place - "Ballers" -- Roche, Bergman, Shayhorn and Antonietti -- 1:29.10. Second place - "J-Hawks" -- William, Jones, Thuli and Olson -- 1:38.44.
